Description:
Princeton: Bollingen Series/Princeton University Press, 1974.. First Edition. Quarto. Bound in dark brown cloth over tan boards. 124 pages plus 48 black and white plates (one folding). Title page in black and red. Some small corner bumps and edge wear. Dust jacket is price-clipped and has some edge wear. A very good copy in like jacket. The three groups of texts in this volume illustrate the various kinds of protection offered to the deceased against the perils of the road while the soul journeys to its rightful place. The first text is The Book of the Two Ways and is concerned with helping the soul to find and follow the two routes (by water and by land) to Rosetan, the gate to the necropolis that gives access to the Netherworld. The texts of the Quererts assist the soul to enter and pass through the twelve caverns of the Netherworld. The third text is a magical aid to winning at draughts, a favorite Egyptian pastime with origins in prehistory.

Berkeley: Last Gasp, 1981-1984. Mixed Editions. Issues 1 and 2 are second printings, the rest are first printings. Magazine. Quarto. 10 issues (1-10). Illustrated throughout. All issues in near fine condition. Weirdo was a magazine-sized comics anthology created by Robert Crumb and published by Last Gasp from 1981 to 1993. Featuring cartoonists both new and old, Weirdo served as a "low art" counterpoint to its contemporary highbrow Raw, co-edited by Art Spiegelman. Crumb contributed cover art and comics to every issue of Weirdo; his wife, cartoonist Aline Kominsky-Crumb, also had work in almost every issue. Crumb focused increasingly on autobiography in his stories in Weirdo. Many other autobiographical shorts would appear in Weirdo by other artists, including Kominsky-Crumb, Carol Tyler, Phoebe Gloeckner, and Dori Seda. David Collier, a Canadian ex-soldier, published autobiographical and historical comics in Weirdo. The anthology introduced artists such as Peter Bagge, Dori Seda,… Read More

Dexter, OR: 88 Books, 1976. First Edition, First Printing. Softcover. Quarto. 237pp. Limited first edition of 5000 numbered copies, this copy being un-numbered. A few b&w illustrations. Small circulr sticker ghost to front end paper (sticker laid-in and says "Yes"). Small circular design in ink to upper right of free endpaper. Otherwise a very good or better copy. This is Leary's only novel designed to provide a psychedelic television experience to the reader. There are four ongoing soap-opera mini-dramas. These are interwoven with commercials, special parody announcements, and mini-documentaries. The viewer is encouraged to flip from channel to channel (chapter to chapter). The central plot is the Quixotic saga of an evolutionary agent, Dylan, a confused but sincere minstrel. He has been assigned to a primitive planet in the latter years of the Roaring 20th Century to perform those small but precise jiggles needed to cause chaos in the old, outmoded gene-pools, thus allowing… Read More

Illustrated with over 50 color photographs of Crowley first editions and related ephemera. Lean to spine otherwise a near fine copy in like dust jacket. This large format hardcover book contains over 50 glossy full color photographs of the rare, often magnificently produced, first-edition books of the renowned British occultist Aleister Crowley - from the collections of the author and fellow bibliophile Danny Carey, drummer for the progressive metal band Tool. For Blair MacKenzie Blake, it all began after he chanced upon a first printing of Crowley's novel, Moonchild: A Prologue in a little book store off the Las Vegas strip. Despite a price sticker of $1,650, he felt compelled to purchase it; unaware at the time that the book's author had performed magical operations to ensure the literary success of his… Read More

London: Fulgur, 1992. True First Edition. Hardcover. Quarto. This issue limited to 956 numbered copies although far fewer were actually issued due to the printer going bankrupt which resulted in most of the sheets being pulped. In 2007 a number of partial sets of sheets were rediscovered and were reissued with a new introduction. This, however, is the true first issue and is now quite scarce. This is No. 159 of the original 335 copies intended for overseas distribution. Black cloth with gilt devices to front and back and gilt spine titles. In a black matching dust jacket. Color frontispieces to each title are tipped in. Lacks the errata/bookmark and the promotional photo which accompanied most copies. Two titles in one volume ([xii] + 20, [x] + 22pp), each starting from opposite ends and ending in the middle (tete-beche). Illustrated with full page black and white drawings by Spare.
