CONDITION: Near fine, light wear to extremities of dj. First edition of a popular book by fine-press historian and printer, Joseph Blumenthal. Includes letters from Blumenthal to Wyman Parker, a collector of fine-press books, arranging a meeting with a lauded typographer.  Blumenthal's letters and note trace his attempts to invite the Parkers over for an "informal luncheon" so that they can meet John Dreyfus, historian of books and designer for Cambridge University Press. Letters from August 28th and September 26th, 1975, indicate the difficulty of organizing a meeting with Parker, who at first seems unreceptive. But Blumenthal's letter from October 3rd, 1975, indicates that Parker had a change of heart and agreed to come to Blumenthal's luncheon. A cabinet card of German composer Richard Wagner, looking to his left and wearing a cravatte. Franz Luckhardt, an Austrian photographer, specialized in portraits of famous people, particularly artists. Three of his cabinet card portraits-of composer Franz Lizst, pianist Anton Grigoryevich Rubinstein, and cellist Jacques Offenbach-are held at the National Portrait Gallery in London.

Detroit Photographic Co., 1902. Hand-colored photograph (9" x 7"), titled in image at lower left, stamps of Detroit Photographic Company dated 1902 at lower right; mounted on original paperboard. A charming hand-colored photograph of two Laguna Pueblo women carrying decorative water pots, one on her head, and the other in her hand; with red scarves, one with floral designs; blue dresses; white blouses and leggings; standing in a shallow dry trench; blue sky, pueblo in background. Title at lower left reads "Water at Pueblo of Laguna, N. M." Illegible inventory number at bottom left. William Henry Jackson photographed the New Mexican Acoma and Laguna pueblos in 1899, and 1902-04 for the Detroit Photographic Co. The Laguna Pueblo, 45 miles from Albuquerque, consists of 6 tribal villages in residence since 1300 AD, (some evidence suggests longer, since 3000 B. C.). CONDITION: Very good.
