Description:
Raleigh, North Carolina, July 8, 1840. 8vo. 2 pp. on bifolium. An autograph letter signed (ALS) from Joseph B. Hinton (1788-1872) to H.M. Morfit, asking for prices and descriptions of lots of property offered for sale in Washington, D.C. "Please inform me what are the most accommodating terms upon which said property can be sold to an actual resident intending to improve it for permanent residence," wrote Hinton, the state legislator of Beaufort County and Raleigh. It appears Morfit's notes concerning his negotiations are written on what was a blank page of the bifolium, indicating his willingness to sell certain lots at 1/3 cent per square foot over the assessed value; therefore square 527 was offered at $1,107 and square 624 at $1,964. This one-page letter has a few bits of loss along the left edge, as if removed from a gathering, not impacting the contents.

Los Angeles: The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, 1935. Pamphlet. Near fine. Second printing (August). [24 p.], illustrated with black and white photographs and a two-page color folding map of the route of Colorado River Aqueduct. Oblong octavo. Original colorful paper wrappers (9" x 6"), bound with two staples. A near fine example with just a hint of rubbing along the top edge. This pamphlet was initially prepared as a "Water Exhibit Souvenir" for the California Pacific International Exposition held in San Diego. It explains briefly how the aqueduct was built by the MWD, which was formed in 1931 after voters from the thirteen cities in Los Angeles and Orange counties approved a $220 million bond issue to address the increased demand for water in Southern California's growing communities. More than 6,500 jobs were created for the construction of the system of tunnels, canals, and conduits built to move one billion gallons of water per day.

Moorhead, Minnesota: New Rivers Press, 2015. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. ...explores the relationship of two art forms: poetry and painting. It is a relationship of equals, where Leila Philip's words are not a comment and Garth Evans's watercolors do not have meaning as an illustration. Rather, in this beautiful book, the fragility and boldness of poems and watercolors interact, underscoring and blurring the limits of time and space with each turn of a page."
