This newspaper contains one of the earliest printings of An Act to Incorporate the Subscribers of the Bank of the United States, one of the key elements in Alexander Hamilton's design for the American financial system. The Act, beginning on page two and continuing on page three, is signed in type by President George Washington. The newspaper was printed in Philadelphia, then the capital of the United States, on the day after it was signed by Washington. An historic printing of an important act in establishing the new nation's financial system.
Condition: 4 pp. Disbound; leaves nearly separated at the spine. Minor chipping. Occasional areas of faint impression.

[Washingto, 1834. 48pp. Stitched as issued, stitching loose. Scattered foxing and tanning. Ms. signature pasted beneath title. Good. Report of the Congressional inquiry into issues regarding the Bank of the United States. Among the issues under investigation are the violation of the Bank's charter and general mismanagement. The affixed signature is that of the William C. Bradley (1782- 1867), a Congressman from Vermont. A quarrel with John Quincy Adams, which turned him to the support of Jackson, caused him to leave Washington politics when only forty-five, though he remained active in state politics in Vermont. He was variously a Jacksonian Democrat, a member of the Free-Soil party, and eventually a member of the burgeoning Republican party. This copy from the Bradley Family library. SHOEMAKER 29202 ref.
