Unused WWI Era Postcard. Initially operated as a "Store Carrier", the ship depicted was converted to an Armed Boarding Steamer for the British Navy in 1914. It was subsequently torpedoed by the German Submarine, SM UC-40 on 8 December 1917 in the North Sea by Lerwick. While being towed to port on 24 December 1917, the ship foundered in a North Sea Gale. At the time that this postcard was published, it was operated by the General Steam Navigation Company, Ltd.
The postcard is unused and is free of any writing, marks, or stains. There is some minor toning, and very minor edge and corner wear.
