Draft script for an unproduced film, matching the description in the UCLA Library Special Collection "Finding Aid for the Waldo Salt Papers, 1936-1987" of Waldo Salt's "Don Quixote" script of 1/25/67. Front wrapper contains the image of Pablo Picasso's 1955 drawing "Don Quixote." From the estate of film producer Elliott Kastner, whose best known credits include "The Long Goodbye" (Robert Altman, 1973), "The Missouri Breaks" (Arthur Penn, 1976), and "Heat" (Michael Mann, 1996). Waldo Salt began his screenwriting career in the 1930's, was blacklisted in 1951 and reemerged as one of the preeminent screenwriters of New Hollywood Cinema in the 1970's, winning Academy Awards for both "Midnight Cowboy" (1969), and "Coming Home" (1978). Salt credited his resurgence on three years (1965-1967) he spent honing his skills, working on a script which was never produced, Cervantes' 1615 masterwork "Don Quixote."
