D.L. Coburn's two-person, two-act play of two elderly nursing home residents who converse while playing a series of gin rummy games, gradually exposing the others' weaknesses and vulnerabilities, each attempting to further belittle and humiliate the other. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for Jessica Tandy, nominated for four other Tony Awards, including Best Play, Best Actor in a Play for Cronyn, and Best Direction of a Play for Mike Nichols.
