THE LEARNING TREE was the first film directed by an African American and financed by a major Hollywood studio, Warner Brothers. Writer-director Gordon Parks adapted his autobiographical novel about a black teenager growing up in Kansas in the 1920s. The film was one of the first twenty-five movies selected in 1989 for preservation as part of the United States National Film Registry.

Professional restoration to edges and a few small spots on the printed area. Near fine. "Ten minutes for refreshments!" was the well-known cry of railroad conductors across the United States before dining cars became common on trains. Hungry and thirsty passengers would rush off the train and into the depot, where they scrambled to order and then bolt down their lunch under the watchful eye of conductor determined to keep the train on schedule. Expertly linen mounted. Image: 27 1/2" x 39 1/2". Art by Eric Rohman (1891-1949), a Swedish artist who specialized in Swedish movie posters. He estimated that he had done over 7000 posters in his lifetime. Signed in the print. "San Francisco" was released in Sweden in November,1936.
