Exquisitely researched, this is an update of the author's earlier work, The '45. By quite a large margin it is the best single-volume treatment of the final Jacobite Rebellion. Duffy has an engaging writing style that keeps the narrative flowing and is never boring. Unlike most (it seems) writers on the subject Duffy maintains an even-handed, unbiased approach. This work covers all of the major events of the '45 along with most of the minor ones as well. The reasons, the politics, the motivations of people both famous and obscure are all presented along with ample coverage of the military events (battles, sieges, skirmishes, etc.). If you want just one book on the '45 make it this one; if you're descended from anyone involved in the '45 get it! Highly recommended!
