In the original smart black cloth binding, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. This novel was first published in German, entitled 'Die Abwesenheit'. The first translation was in 1990. This is the first British edition of the work. Written by Austrian novelist, playwright and director, Peter Handke, who received the 2019 Nobel Prize in Literature for his influential work. Translated by American translator Ralph Manheim.'Absence' is set in an unspecified modernity, following four characters simply referred to as '"the old man", "the woman", "the soldier" and "the gambler" as they journey beyond the boundaries of the wasteland of an unnamed city. In the original cloth binding, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, lovely, with minor shelf wear only. Dust wrapper is excellent, with light edge wear and the occasional small mark. Internally, firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean. Near Fine
