Taipei: SMC Publishing Inc, 1996. Facsimile reprint edition, 8vo, 2 vols.; text illustrations, two plates, including a color map; full navy cloth gilt; fine in fine dust jackets. The first edition of this work was published in 1889. Campbell served as a Missionary in Taiwan between 1871 and 1917, and became an expert on the history of the island. He was cited by James Davidson, himself an important author on Taiwan as "without doubt the greatest authority on the subject living."
