About This Item
Boston: Lothrop Publishing Company, 1899. First Edition. First printing, with no printing statement on verso of title page. Octavo (21cm). Publisher's embossed red cloth, titled in gilt with applied photo-pictorial cover illustration; 288pp; illus. Old ink-stains to cloth on front cover and spine; ink inscriptions to endpapers; still a tight, sound copy of the uncommon first edition.
A juvenile adventure written to capitalize on the turn-of-the-century amateur camera craze. "This is the story of the camera hobby; of an amateur photographer and his chums; of a boy's adventures in the company of his camera; of a camera club and the old and young brought together by the influence of a common interest" (from the author's introduction). Not in Wright - perhaps omitted due to juvenile content, though others of Black's young-adult works are included there.
