Beautifully illustrated copy of "Chimney Corner Fairy Tales" collected and retold by Veronica S. Hutchinson with its original dust jacket. 1926 1st edition, 1st printing (with no printing designation listed on the copyright page); Minton, Balch & Company; New York. This edition features full-page color plates and black & white illustrations throughout by Lois Lenski. Illustrated end papers in color. The dust jacket comes with a clear protective sleeve - not shown. Quite scarce true 1st printing with the original dust jacket. There are 13 fairy tales in all, as follows: Tom Tit Tot; The Lad Who Went to the North Wind; Snowdrop and the Seven Little Dwarfs; Little One-Eye, Two-Eyes, and Three-Eyes; Boots and His Brothers; Briar Rose; The Bee, the Harp, the Mouse, and the Bumclock; The Princess on the Glass Hill; The Fisherman and His Wife; The Golden Bird; East o' the Sun and West o' the Moon; Snow-White and Rose-Red; Billy Beg and His Bull.
From the dust jacket: "Each (fairy tale) is carefully chosen with a view to pleasing children who will in this book be introduced to the magic of the fairy story. Lois Lenski's illustrations are full of imagination and fantasy, yet each one is calculated to delight the child mind with recognizable details. Her illustrations display a rare combination of gay humor and romantic imagery."
Condition:
Clean front cover and spine; the back cover has a few very light smudges, and a 2" cloth tear at the right edge where the cover meets the spine. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Overall the book is in Very Good+ condition. The dust jacket has small pieces missing at the spine and flap corners; there are tears at the top and bottom edges of the spine that have been repaired on the back-side with clear tape; there is a small piece missing at the left edge of the back cover; the price has been clipped from the front flap...overall the jacket is in Good condition. (The jacket comes with a clear protective sleeve - not shown.)
