About This Item
London: J. M. Dent & Sons Ltd., 1912. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 11" by 9". A. R. Quinton. A first edition copy of this beautifully illustrated tour of the cottages and villages of rural England. The first edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding. A lovely early twentieth-century guide to rural England, describing quintessentially English villages and cottages, and offering historical insights on these places. This work was written by the Reverend Peter Ditchfield (1854-1930), who wrote prolifically on the subject of the histories of English counties, towns and villages. Charmingly illustrated with fifty-two tipped-in plates of colour reproductions of paintings, and nineteen in-text line drawings, by A. R. Quinton (1853-1934), an English watercolour artist known for his paintings of British villages and landscapes, many of which were published as postcards. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally smart, with light shelf wear to the extremities and two small marks to the rear board. A little fading to the front board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for the odd spot to the paste downs and end papers and remnants of tape to the end papers. Very Good
