The first edition of this incredibly charming collection of stories and legends from the French valley of Loire. A very charming, large volume by Margaret Aulton, comprising a recounting of sixteen stories and legends regarding the Loire in France. The first edition of 1925. Some of the titles included are 'Chinon,' 'Langeais,' 'Loches,' 'Chambord and some of the lesser Chateau.'The work is illustrated with ninety facsimile reproductions of the original drawings and copper plate engravings by the author, twelve full page and the rest in text. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally very smart with only minor shelf wear and some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. The front joint is slightly cracked, with a minor marking to the rear board. A small library label to the spine. With Estelle Williams' bookplate to the front pastedown. internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean but for a minimal touch age toning to the leaves of plates, as usual, due to the type of paper used. Illustrated with ninety facsimile reproductions of the original drawings and copper plate engravings by the author, twelve full page and the rest in text. Collated, complete. Very Good
