There is some rubbing to the base edge of the boards, otherwise in very good condition. Previous owner's name at the top of the front paste down, and a gift inscription/birthday wishes from Fred hollows dated 6/10/91 on the title page. (October, not June) Orange coloured endpapers. The text is illustrated with black-and-white photography, maps, reproductions of posters and medical cards. Black coloured boards with gilt writing on the spine. Small gilt printers' cartouche to the lower spine edge. Photographic dust wrapper, showing Fred Hollows, against a white background with black writing on the front panel and back on the spine. Small grey printers' cartouche to the lower spine edge. The autobiography of Fred Hollows, who before he died, was the saviour of sight in both Africa and Australia. In Australia, he founded the " Trachoma Program ", which saved the sight of over 100,000 Australian Aborigines. In the devastated African country of Eritrea he and his dedicated band of merry sight makers restored sight many Africans with a simple plastic lens for cataracts.
