Primarily known as a television journalist, Betty Rollin's most well-known book First You Cry (1976) dealt with her diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer in 1975 and was made into a television movie starring Mary Tyler Moore. Her later work Last Wish dealt with her mother's diagnosis with terminal ovarian cancer in 1981 and her death, aided by her daughter, in 1983. It was also made into a TV movie in 1992 starring Patty Duke as Rollin and Maureen Stapleton as her mother. Ms. Rollin herself died by assisted suicide at the Pegasos Swiss Association in Basel, Switzerland on November 14, 2023, at the age of 87.
