Boston: Roberts Brothers, 1881. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. 16mo 6" - 7" tall. Signed by Author. Inscribed by the author at the first free endpaper, Mr. E. Rice, "with compliments of the author," in pencil. Bound handsomely in short octavo format in original publisher's green cloth with gilt lettering and design to spine. Some light soiling to and light wear of covers, else interior is clean and tightly bound, bright and unmarked. Exceedingly pretty bookplate affixed to the front pastedown. John White Chadwick (October 19, 1840 – December 11, 1904) was, according to a Wikipedia entry about him, an American writer and clergyman of the Unitarian Church, born in Marblehead, Massachusetts, apprenticed to a shoemaker early on, but then graduated in 1864 from Harvard Divinity School and became an influential pastor and writer, a "radical teacher of the doctrines of his church." [13], 14-258 pp. plus some publisher's advertisements. Laid in also is a fetching four-fold, eight-paint watercolor on heavy paper, hand-colored and suitable for framing.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
