About This Item
London: Thomas Nelson & Sons , c1912. Cloth. Good. 6.5" by 4". None . A scarce edition of journalist Edmund Candler's insightful wanderings across India throughout the early 20th century. An early edition, first published by Blackwood in 1910.Undated, dated from a copy held at The Hathi Trust. Original decorative cloth binding. An impactful work detailing the travels and experiences of India-based English journalist and educator Edmund Candler. Candler was known to have uncommonly liberal views of colonial India in the early 20th century, which appears through his special retelling of expeditions and observations of Indian culture. Candler has been noted to take much inspiration for his writings from Rudyard Kipling, author of 'The Jungle Book' duology. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally smart with slight rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Hinges strained after the first and last few leaves. Offsetting to endpapers. Contemporary ink signatures to front endpapers. Internally generally firmly bound. Generally bright, clean pages. Good
