About This Item
Stanford University Press, Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A, 1983. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/Good. 400 g; X, 214 pages, including list of works published by Max Weber, biographical note, suggested further reading list, references, and index. Original photographic illustrated dust jacket. Slight rubbing of both the top and bottom edges of the dust jacket, and a slight imperfection in the front fold over crease, and a crease in the front fold over flap itself. Otherwise a clean bright copy. Max Weber was trained as a lawyer and a legal historian, and his lifelong interest in the law is reflected in nearly everything he wrote. But only in the lengthy essay entitled "Sociology of Law," does Weber focus primarily on the legal order itself. Despite its reputation as a classic and the enormous influence it has had, Weber's "Sociology of Law" has long been criticised for the density of its prose, the forbiddingly wide range of its coverage, and its lack of polish and organisational unity. This book not only demonstrates that it has more unity and coherence than its critics claim, but relates it clearly to other branches of Weber's general theory of society, -- notably those dealing with authority, religion, and economic action. The result is a new interpretation of the whole of Weber's sociology from the perspective of his sociology of law. This is the third volume in the series Jurists: Profiles in Legal Theory. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Sociology & Culture; Legal; ISBN: 0804711402.
