The first edition of this work, illustrated throughout with facsimile drawings, engraved on wood, by the brothers Dalziel.A history of the Bartholomew Fair, a summer Charter fair in London, that took place on the 24th August from 1133 to 1855.The charter for the first fair was granted by Henry I to fund the Priory of St Bartholomew.With the stamp and inscription of James W. Hoste to the front free endpaper and a front blank.With a single advertisement leaf to the rear. In a half calf binding, with marbled paper covered boards. A touch of fading to back strip, with small split in leather to head of front joint. Hinges strained but firmly held. Inscription and prior owner's stamp to a front blank and front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and generally clean, with tide mark and tape repair to fore edge of page 47. Light handling marks throughout. Good
