Royal octavo (9 1/4" x 6 1/4") bound in original publisher's brown cloth with black label to spine in silver lettering in original pictorial jacket. Civilization of American Indian Series First edition.

The Mixtec Indians of northwestern Oaxaca, Mexico, recorded much of their history in picture manuscripts and were among the greatest of the pre-Columbian artists. They created exquisite works of ceramic, gold, wood, carved bone, delicate sculpture in stone and the finest painting of their time. While Mixtec goods and cultural influences were spreading widely over prehispanic Mesoamerica, the Mixtecs were developing a way of life that gives them a special place in New World cultures.

Condition: Previous owner's ticket to front paste down. Jacket corners and spine ends rubbed, front head edge closed tear with creases, hinges and fold over edges rubbed else, price clipped a very good copy in like jacket.
