Paris: Veuve Bordelet , 1758. Leather. Very Good. 5.5" by 3.5". None . Uniform full calf-bound volumes of the dramatic works of Pierre Corneille in the original French. Pierre Corneille was one of the most influential French dramatists in the seventeenth century along with Moliere and Racine. French tragedian, known for his play Le Cid tragicomedy first performed in 1636 at the Théâtre du Marais in Paris. Other works include 'La Mort de Pompee', 'Andromede', 'Cinna' and 'Clitandre'. When young he earned the patrionate of Cardinal Richelieu. The present group is a collection of his works, in uniform full calf bindings. Eight volumes of a set complete in ten, in the original French. With numerous leaves of advertisements, as well as introductory essays on Corneille, on tragedy, and dramatic poetry. With half titles.Comprising continuous volumes I-VIII, lacking volume IX with Tite et Bérénice; Pulcherie; Surena; and oeuvres diverses; and volume X with a general table of contents and poetical miscellanies. In uniform full calf bindings. Externally generally smart with minor shelf wear, spine and boards lightly rubbed particularly to head and tail which are only lightly chipped. Front joint cracked to vol. VI and VII, boards holding firm, front free endpaper was excised to vol. VI. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with only odd spotting scattered to the occasional leaf. Very Good
