About This Item
Garden City: Doubleday, Page & Co, 1914. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good/fair. Octavo. First Edition, with all points. Publisher's light blue mesh cloth, titles and illustration on upper board and spine, spine titles a bit rubbed out, spine tips and corners gently rubbed, but generally a bright, sharp copy; the scarce and fragile jacket is soiled with a few chips, creases, short tears, enclosed in a custom cloth sheath with a gilt-embossed morrocco spine label. With a former bookseller description laid in. Inscribed on the FFEP, "Gladly inscribed for Mr. Slocum, Booth Tarkington." Myles Standish Slocum (1887-1956) was a noted book collector, descended directly from Myles Standish on one side and from John Carter Brown on the other.
