About This Item
Oxford: Oxford University Press, 1808. Leather. Very Good Indeed. 6.5" by 4". None. An uncommon three volume collection of poetry by Rev. James Hurdis, bound in leather. Written by James hurdis (1763-1801), an English clergyman and poet who was Fellow of Magdalen College. Charmingly, Hurdis used to free birds that had been caught by shepherds to sell as songbirds, and in their place he left coins. He penned his work 'The Village Curate' whilst he was curate of Burwash.Complete in three volumes. Published at the University of Oxford Press after the author's death, with a profuse number of subscribers. In a half calf binding. Externally generally smart, with some bumping to the extremities and minor wear to the spine. Ownership inscriptions to the title page and front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with just the odd spot. Very Good Indeed
