Fay and Michael Kanin wrote for both stage and screen as a collaborative force in the arts for much of their marriage, beginning with their first adapted screenplay Sunday Punch (1942) - written on their honeymoon - to which MGM bought the rights. They were nominated for a joint Academy Award in 1958 for Teacher's Pet, among many other accolades. Fay went on to be president of the Academy from 1979 to 1983.
