About This Item
New York: The Viking Press, 1973. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good/Very good. Review copy, with the publisher's press release laid in. Noble Sissle (1889-1975) and Eubie Blake (1887-1983) recollect more than 50 years of their musical careers, as collaborators and solo artists. Famous for his rag-time piano, Blake teamed with composer and lyricist Sissle to create terrific music with such hits as "I'm Just Wild about Harry" and "Love Will Find A Way". Their electrifying review "Shuffle Along" was the first Broadway musical with an all black cast and helped usher in the African American Cultural Renaissance of the 1920s. Includes a discography, and a listing of their immense creative output, including films, piano rolls, musical scores, and records. Quarto: 256 p. with hundreds of illustrations. Original silver paper-covered boards over a mauve cloth spine, with silver titles. Some mild edgewear to the dust jacket; else very good or better.
