A big, tall, sturdy, attractive, tightly bound, internally clean hardcover copy, tall, heavy quarto format, bound in a rust-colored linen cloth, with unbruised tips, neat and tidy paste-downs; not ex-library, with neither highlighting nor underlining. Illustrated paper label to cover is barely abraded, that on spine is rubbed and abraded. Bumping to and scuffing of spine head and foot. Volume contains scholarly apparatus in the form of, e.g., notes, index, and bibliography. Introductory Note by six noted Japanese art historians including the two authors, with a list of the collections, a biography of Toshusai Sharaku, the ukiyo-e master from the 1790s, and a list of the surviving prints and drawings of the master Japanese printmaker. Glossary, and a full bibliography. 146 black-and-white photographs of his woodblock prints. 337 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
