London: Smith, Elder, & Co., 1901. vii, [1], 384pp, [8]. With a portrait frontispiece, a further seven plates, four maps (one folding), and four terminal leaves of publisher's advertisements. Original publisher's blue cloth, stamped and lettered in gilt. Lightly rubbed and bumped, a trifle cocked. Inscribed to British Indian official Sir William Charles Macpherson (1855-1936) on recto of FFEP: 'W. C. Macpherson / 11th August. 1902 / From Ella', very occasional ink annotations, one plate detached. A detailed history of the Indian Mutiny of 1857, and the campaigns to suppress it, by Australian journalist and educator William Henry Fitchett (1841-1928). Sir William Charles Macpherson (1855-1936), civil servant in India, a member of the Bengal Legislative Council (1902-11), and member of the Board of Revenue of Calcutta (1906-11). . First edition. 8vo.
