About This Item

A GENUINE DATE-STAMPED 1910 1ST US EDITION THAT IS NOW 114 YEARS OLD & IN BEAUTIFUL CONDITION
DISCUSSED: JAPANESE MYTHOLOGY, BUDDHA, SAMURAI, SPIRITS, FIRE-WATER, THE SUN GODDESS, JAPANESE LORE, AND MORE
MASTERFULLY ILLUSTRATED WITH COLOR PLATES BY JAPANESE ARTIST GENJIRO KATAOKA
INCLUDING A BEAUTIFUL CHERRY BLOSSOM FLORAL MOTIF COVER WITH GOLD STAMPING STILL IN LOVELY CONDITION

"He, whom a mere woman had scorned, under the spell of a witch, a wild creature of the Japanese mountains."

This is a beautiful edition of the legendary story of Tama. Within its pages, you will find passages on Mythology, the lore of old Japan, and so much more. For an age reference, this book was printed even before the First World War in 1914. This is the original 1910 1st edition, not a later remake or facsimile copy. It contains all the original color plates, with none removed. I would snag this one before it's gone.

Transport yourself to a realm of wonder and magic with our exquisite 1st edition book of Japanese Fairy Tales. Originally published in 1910, this rare gem holds timeless tales, rich folklore, and captivating narratives.

It is a tapestry of Japanese culture that journies through enchanting stories brought to life by the delicate strokes of beautiful color illustrations. Each page is a visual masterpiece, adding depth and allure to the already captivating tales that lie within.

Whether you are a collector of rare books, an avid reader, or a lover of Japanese culture, this 1st edition book of Japanese Fairy Tales is a treasure you won't want to miss. It is not merely a book but a portal to a bygone era; it is a historically important work in Japanese literature and mythology.

"Onoto Watanna 1879-1954 was born in Canada. Her father, de Ella, was an Englishman in the consular service, and her mother, de Ella, was Japanese. Onoto became the first woman of Asian descent to publish a novel in English in the United States. She was widely read during the early 1900s. She made over a hundred contributions to significant periodicals such as Frank Leslie's Popular Monthly, Harpers Monthly, Century Magazine, Red Book, and the Ladies Home Journal. While in Chicago, she wrote her first book, Miss Number of Japan (1898). Her most important work is a Japanese Nightingale (Harper & Brothers, 1901). She wrote over 15 novels, 39 short stories, and more than 20 essays and related professions."

THE ARTIST
Genjiro Yeto (1867 - 1924) was born Genjiro Kataoka in Arita, Japan. Late in life, he reassumed the name Kataoka (It is known that as of 1914, he was again, or still, signing his paintings "G. Kataoka.") Coming to the United States around 1891, he studied at New York's Art Students League with Robert Blum, Kenyon Cox, John H. Twachtman and illustrator W. Appleton Clark. Following his first solo exhibition at a New York gallery in 1901, he received steady commissions to illustrate Japanese-inspired fiction for American readers. Those commissions included "Tora's Happy Day" (1899) by Florence Peltier Perry, "A Japanese Nightingale" (1901) by Onoto Watanna, and "The American Diary of a Japanese Girl."
