Book Description: From the environment of Middle-America and straight out of the background of the nation's history, set during the years 1908 to 1917, comes this moving recreation of a childhood seen from the crossroads perspective of a girl's thirteenth year. With flawless characterization, with simple and unshrinking honesty, with perfect use of the old English-American idiom, Mrs. Frederikson tells the story of a little girl, Delphine Doud, who at first accepts unthinkingly her family's impoverished and nomadic condition, then starts to question it, then with her dawning intelligence begins to work her way out of it. What other writers say of Three Parts Earth — "A delight...Its complete honesty, and its plunge forthright into all the color and feel of the world, and...the writing—I think it all truly good." — Eudora Welty, author of Losing Battles. "No one has written just this kind of book before. It is a jewel, and stands by itself...A novel for the connoisseur as well as for the general reader." — Irma Friedrich, author of The Separated Island.
