New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1950. Early reprint. Jo J. Mora. Inscribed on half title 'To/Harvey Russell/a/real cattleman and/friend of my husband/with the best wishes/of/Grace N. Mora' opposite his bookplate. Octavo. 246pp. Numerous full page and in-text illustrations. Grey cloth with red lettering and longhorn skull to front cover in Jo Mora designed dustjacket and illustrated endpapers. Near Fine copy in dust jacket with light edgewear, especially at corners and faded spine (as usual). Harvey Andrew Russell was raised on the Triunfo Ranch (a part of the old Conejo Grant) and with his brothers Hubbard and Joseph operated a number of ranches throughout California, including San Carlos Ranch in Carmel Valley. Prominent statewide, Russell served as a director of both the California Cattlemen's Association and the American National Cattlemen's Association and was a recognized authority on wild grasses used for cattle feed. "No better exposition anywhere, and here tellingly illustrated, of reatas, spurs, bits, saddles, and other gear." Dobie p. 112. (Grandeau-Shorts B112a).
