The author, David Lamson, was convicted in 1933 of murdering his wife at Stanford University. He and his wife, Allene, were both Stanford graduates and were a part of the literary set on campus. In this book, Lamson describes his experiences on San Quentin's death row and the other prisoners he encountered there.
