About This Item

New York: The Devin-Adair Co., 1920. Russell visited Ireland in 1919 as a reporter for the Chicago "Herald." Dressing as a "working girl" she lived in the slums of Dublin, writing this sympathetic report.. An uncommon title. Dark blue ribbed cloth binding, titled on the spine and front cover in gilt. Clean text; 160 pages, with for pages of publisher's adverts in the rear. The Preface is a letter to Russell by Eamon de Valera, and this copy has been INSCRIBED by the Author "To the President of the Irish Republic Eamon de Valera, with best wishes from a citizen of the United States." Below the inscription is the stamp from de Valera's library. Mild bumping; spine slightly darkened and the gilt dulled; small torn label on spine. Front gutter is cracked but holding well. Fore-edge has a number in green ink, with an unknown purpose. No dustjacket. In an archival plastic protector.. Inscribed By Author. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
