First edition, first impression, presented by the published and Anglo-Saxon scholar Kenneth Sisam (1887-1971) to Richard Stephen Creed (1898-1964), a physiologist, on behalf of the Oxford University Press. A loosely inserted 1935 letter from Sisam, a friend and colleague of Tolkien, requests Creed's opinion on the book, ahead of recommending the purchase of the American rights. A manuscript note recording Creed's (favourable) response is also loosely inserted: "It is well written, well translated, and full of good matter... I should think, therefore, that it is a more helpful proposition for an American than for an English publisher... by no means all American scientists can read German". Here, David Katz (1884-1953), an experimental psychologist, explores the psychology of colour, along with its application to problems of painting, photography, and architecture. Octavo.
