Susan Patron (1948 – )

Susan Patron is an American author of children's books, who worked in Children's Services at the Los Angeles Public Library for 35 years before retiring as a Senior Librarian in 2007.

Patron has served on many book award committees, including the Caldecott and Laura Ingalls Wilder Committees of the American Library Association.

Her first book, Burgoo Stew, was published in 1990. Her novel, The Higher Power Of Lucky, first in the Hard Pan trilogy, won the Newbery Award in 2007.

Her husband Rene is a rare book restorer, originally from France.
