Bound in full contemporary mottled calf, expertly rebacked, with raised bands, blind stamped in comparments with red and gilt title labels. .There is a small wormhole from plate 68/69, plate 70 and to plate 71, 72. Each of the seven folding sections, [9.5x3.5 inches 23.5 x9 cms], have hand coloured etchings showing Humpty Dumpty sitting on the wall, Falling and All the kings horses and men trying to rescue him ,etc. A panoramic retelling of the popular nursery rhyme subtly pregnant with political allegory. This is a spectacular panorama.The sketches are charming and the colour subtle and appealing .All the sections are fresh and clean.there is a little bumping to the corners of the upper board. Folio with 122 of the original 125 engravings,26 double page fold out .A few dampstains not affecting the engraved surface, some plates are foxed others are free of foxing.The last plate has been rpaired and loosely inserted. There is a small previous owners stamp on the title page.This copy appears to have 122 plates of the 125 called for although the numbers are consecutively paginated 1- 118 with an additional 4 plates. Binding is quarter calf with raised bands and title label ,cloth boards, See illustrations. This atlas is notable for its rare illustrations of the first Steam Driven Paddle Steamers.This is a large and heavy book and may require extra postage.

Illustrated and although there are odd spots or annotations to the free endpapers the set is in Very Good condition tight , fresh and volume one has the original wrappers bound in at the rear. Volume One bears the bookplate of Henry Archibald Cockburn with the Cockburn I Rise in The Morning, Vigilandset Audax and the cockerels. Unusually good set. Contains Scottish Parish Registers , Family Hstory etc.Scotland and its History.

This is an ex library copy and has a few discrete perforated library marks , There are a few contemporary pen corrections on pages p.38,.p.42 & p.43 very discrete and only one per page.. He declined the Crown of Greece in 1862 after the abdication of King Otto. He became Baron Lytton of Knebworth in 1866. Bulwer-Lytton's works were highly popular and paid him well. He coined the phrases "the great unwashed", "pursuit of the almighty dollar", "the pen is mightier than the sword", and "dweller on the threshold". Catalogue 2 has a damp stain on the rear affecting the last two plates.

An explanation of the meaning and a timeline of its construction including acknowledgements of workers and details of the materials used. On the title page in hand Lawrence Dawes 1/2 1985. Red cloth hardcover with some marking, internally fine with many colour and black and white printed illustrations and original tipped in photographs.
