Text in Tatar; Russian title from colophon: Tatarskiye narodnyye poslovitsy. The classic collection of Tatar proverbs, more than 38,000, compiled by an acclaimed writer of songs and plays. A new edition was issued in 2010. Scarce in the West, with just one US holding (Harvard, OCLC 83619595) and two incomplete sets in Germany. First edition (first printing). Very good to near fine volumes; no dust jackets, perhaps as issued. Bookplate in each volume.

Tennant and Ward, 1904. Leather. The first 65 issues of the monthly photography magazine that began publication in 1899. Ten leather bound volumes containing six issues each bound without original covers or ads, and five volumes in original printed blue wrappers. Leather volumes 4-3/4 by 7-3/4 inches; paper volumes 5 by 8 inches. Each issued covered a single topic; topics here include Modern Lenses, Flowers and Trees, Home Portraiture, Vacation Photography, The Darkroom, Landscape Photography, and Aerial Photographs. According to camerapedia.wiki: 'Due to popular demand many issue numbers were reprinted a number of times and some issue numbers were rewritten and reissued to bring them up to date while they remained in print.' The novel on which Orson Wells loosely based the 1958 film Touch of Evil starring Charlton Heston, Janet Leigh, Orson Welles, Joseph Calleia, Akim Tamiroff, Marlene Dietrich and Zsa Zsa Gabor. Masterson is a pseudonym for the American writing partnership of Bob Wade and H. Bill Miller. First British edition (first printing). Red cloth with gilt lettering on the spine. Near fine in a dust jacket with a short closed tear to the cover and a short snag to the rear panel and spine head.

In 1647 Barleu wrote an account of the Dutch colonial empire in Brazil inspired by the leadership of John Mauricio of Nassau, who was appointed governor of the Dutch West India Company in 1637 and continued as governor until 1644. Limited edition. First edition thus. A very fine copy in full leather covers over boards with gold insignia and lettering. Covers with bevelled edges. Spine with five raised bands. Marbled endpapers. Signed by Nevinson in pencil under the frontispiece plate. A very good copy in green paper over boards and cloth covers with paper label pasted to front cover and spine. Edge and corner wear to covers with boards showing at corners. Spine label is chipped at edges not affected lettering. Small chip missing from spine edge. Endpapers are foxed. Plates are near fine.

Very good in wrappers (paperback). Spine toned and concave, with wear to the flap folds. Inscribed by the author to a noted book collector: 'To Don Kaufmann / I saw galleys on The Naked and the Dead while living in Paris through the winter of 1947-1948, but this edition put together before publication for reviewers was never glimpsed by me until after my return to the states in 1948. / Norman Mailer / Sept. The Field-Turner feud renowned in the annals of California history. Turner a judge that had Field, an attorney, disbarred; Field ultimatley got his revenge by, on election to the California Assembly, arranging Turner's banishment, via judicial reorganization, to a remote 'region in the northern part of the state.' Thomas Cotes, 1635. Hardcover. 328 pages with errors in pagination (but catchwords indicate all pages present): 2-14, 15-67, 67-175, 175-225, 228-328. Frontispiece portrait signed G. Gif (George Gifford), and emblem woodcut of the London Stationers on the title page. More complete than the original 1562 edition. Latimer was the Bishop of Worcester and a Chaplain to King Edward VI before being burned at the stake in 1555 under Catholic Queen Mary I. Nineteenth century diced calf, rebacked and restored, new endpapers. The binder severly cropped the pages in some cases affecting running titles and folio numbers. Some penciled marginalia. Armorial bookplate on front pastedown. Newspaper clippings tipped in. Overall a nice copy. Scarce.

Originally published in monthly volumes. Full calf with gold lettering and decoration on the spines. Covers rubbed and scuffed. Some foxing, offsetting, most pronounced at endpapers and title page. Volume I with hinges cracked and bibliographic info pasted to front pastedown. With former seller's small stamp on rear pastedown in all four volumes. A nice little set.

The Vanguard Press, 1937. Hardcover. Very Good. The first children's book published by Theodor Seuss Geisel. Seventeenth printing. A very good copy in a dust jacket with several snags and tears to the edges and some loss to the spine ends. Original seller's small stamp on rear pastedown. The seller was John Cole's Books & Craft Shop in Seuss's adopted hometown of La Jolla, CA, where he lived after World War II until his death in 1991. Seuss was close friends with John and Barbara Cole and often signed books in their bookshop. Original Cole's receipt with customer name matching the inscription laid in, dated August 27, 1969. Inscribed on the front free endpaper: 'For the _____________ family with best wishes... Dr. Seuss.'.

From a limited edition of 980 numbered copies; there were also 20 lettered copies hors commerce. 'First published by J. B. Millet Company, Boston, in 1897 - 8, in a range of editions. This Folio edition follows the text of the 10-volume de luxe edition' -- from the copyright page. With essays on Japanese art by Kakuzo Okakura, and a new essay for the Folio Society by David Perkins. Illustrated in color. Volume I in red cloth decorated in black, white and gold. Volume II in black cloth decorated in white, red and gold. All edges gilt. Both copies fine in fine, titled slipcases, with white scuffs to the slipcase of Volume II. A large, heavy set of books.
