Edited by Frank Baum with "a note to the editor". Title in red & black. Tipped in photograph frontispiece of the author. Sixteen photogravures after photographs mostly taken by Frank Baum. "This is copy #16. of a few copies of this book privately printed. It is presented to Mrs. H.P. Caldwell with the affectionate regards of the author, ' Here signed by Maud Gage Baum and dated 12/25/07. Some light spotting to spine and some scuffing at corners. These are Maud's letters from Europe issued for private circulation. Extremely rare. In 1906, because of Frank's literary successes and the profitable royalities from the 1902 Wizard of Oz musical, Maud and Frank were wealthy enough to travel aroiund Egypt, Greece, Italy, North Africa, Switerland and France on a sixth month expedition. This work was published in modest quantity for friends and family.

The Humboldt Publishing Co.,: The Humboldt Publishing Co.,, 1890. First American edition. Wraps. Good. Wrappers. Translated from the third German edition & edited by Frederick Engels. Four issues in the Humboldt Library of Science Series. These issues are 135, 136, 137 and 138 and are dated September 1, 1890 - October 15, 1890. This is a pirated edition and is the first edition printed in America of the first volume of Capital. The first "official" American edition was published 1889 by Appleton & Co. NY as a re-issue of the 1887 London edition with sheets supplied by a London company with a new title page and was actually printed in Scotland. There was also a hardcover edition published around the same time, precedence unknown. Spines and covers are taped and have chips missing. The third issue has three small holes through the cover and the first 21 pages of text which has done some damage to text. A rare set in any condition.

There is a full page watercolor drawing SIGNED by artist Alexander King opposite page one. The illustration is an image of two semi-naked men in drag. One holding a mirror while the other man applies lipstick. Except for some edge wear at bottom of covers, this is a beautiful copy.
