Good. hardback. half calf, two volumes, large 8vo, spines with elaborate gilt decoration, gilt titles on red morocco labels, top corners of boardsof volume two bumped, corner pieces rubbed with some loss, tears to leather on lower side strip of volume two, all edges gilt, marbled boards and endpapers, 117 hand-coloured plates of religious figures in costume - mostly very good, some few with light discolouration or spotting, minor foxing to pre-lims, iv, 299 & 220, 68pp. Additional images supplied on request:.

1997: John Nichols and Son, 1822. Book. Very Good. hardback. 1st Edition. hardback, five parts in two volumes published between 1822 and 1841, folios measuring 19 2/5" x 11", contemporary half-calf with marbled boards, sometime re-backed with original backstrip laid down, rubbed heavily to corners of boards and les so to remaining extremities, six raised bands to spine, of the compartments two with gilt titles on deepest blue morocco, others with part faded gilt tooling, stitching remains tight. Volume I with an 1822 title page but a duplicate title page the third part inserted before page 540, volume II, as is common, bound without a title page. Sporadic foxing to the text, heavy in one or two gatherings of volume I, heavy to pp173-194 of volume II, some offsetting to the text from the etched and engraved illustrations which are present in addition to the thirty-nine uncoloured plates. Geo Witchell, 1764. Map. Fair. No Binding. large engraved map of the 1764 eclipse of the sun, published by George Witchell and inscribed to Nathaniel Bliss, Astronomer Royal. The map is surrounded with explanatory embellishments, together with an explanation at the foot. Measuring 21" x 16", this is an unframed copy showing four folds. Unfortunately it lacks the top left corner and would need to be completed at that point with a facsimile. Four very small holes to the left margin, the dotted border between England and Wales has been coloured pink and two lines linking London with the North have been inked in. Paris chez le citoyen Lamarche, 1795. Book. Good. Hardcover. hardback, third edition, text and Tables in French, octavo, comprising thirty double page b&w maps, ix [1] + 47 pages text, the maps all tab mounted for binding. The binding quarter cloth with paper covered sides is in a very poor state with much of the spine perished and the boards detached. The front free endpaper is detached but the text block and the maps are all tightly bound, there is marginal browning to the maps and some mild scattered foxing although this primarily is to the verso. With rebinding this would present a very good copy. .

Very Good. hardback. 1st Edition. hardback, small octavo, purple cloth lettered gilt, a tightly bound copy, distributor blind embossed stamp to the foot of the title page, the body of the text is clean and unmarked, The age-toned dust jacket is complete and is unclipped but has a water stain to the front panel and is thus good only, the water stain shows through to about a half square inch on the upper board, 44pp. Scarce. The first book of poems by Dillon, inspired by the teachings of Gurdjieff and drawing on his encounters with theosophy. Called 'the first trans man', Michael Dillon was born Maud Dillon & was the first person to undergo phalloplasty. His birth certificate was amended as such in 1944. T Cadell, 1791. Book. Good. hardback. hardback, octavo, bound in half calf and marbled paper covered boards and edges. Gilt title to spine. Lower hinge weak with board just attached.Tightly sewn with a text free of markings. The date at the foot of the final leaf has been excised. Foxing to the front endpapers and with one or two spots to the title page. The large folding map of North Africa by J Rennell has a short closed edge tear and is generally in very good order, xvi + 351pp. Scarce. .

Lettered gilt to the spines, new endpapers. Silked marginal repair to the original free endpapers and to the frontis of volume one, Mild spotting to some plates, text clean and both volumes are free of markings. Twenty-nine illustrations, of which the frontis and two further plates are coloured, the third bound as a frontis to volume two. Very Good. hardback. 1st Edition. hardback, octavo, bound in quarter vellum with marbled boards, gilt title on red morocco to spine, later endpapers. A tightly bound copy, free of markings. Folding frontis map with light spotting and with offsetting to the facing title page. Some foxing to the early and final leaves. viii + 264pp. At the foot of the last page of text are the printed words 'Devon and Exeter Institution'. Scarce volume, never reprinted until the Frank Cass facsimile of 1967. .

Top edges gilt, lettered gilt on burgundy morocco to spines, compartments blocked with a blind stamp design. A very good tightly bound set, the folding map frontis to volume one has two closed edge tears with loss, the text is clean and unmarked, coloured chromolithographic frontis to volume two, one further folding map at the rear of the first volume. .
