Appears Unread, With No Spine Crease. This Would Appear To Be Some Form Of Advanced Proof Copy. Mustard - Orange Card Covers, Hand Numbered Pages ( 207 ), And Most Intriguing, The Original Title " Tara, Bowing " Has Been Stroked Out And " The Tiger's Daughter " Has Been Written Above. I Assume, Therefore, That The Working Title Was Changed At The Last Moment, And The Missing Note That Was Clipped In May Have Been The Author's Explanation For The Change. I Don't Know Whether The Change Is In The Author's Hand, But This Is A Most Intriguing Copy Of Mukherjee's First Book..

Bretherton's wife to the wife of Kenneth Grahame on the flyleaf. Bretherton was a frequent contributor to Punch magazine and an enthusiastic support of Grahame. Poems was published after the death of both Bretherton and Grahame, hence the inscription to/from their respective spouses.

First edition, two volumes, octavo; xi, [i], 413, 380pp. In original uniform publisher's brown buckram with gilt and blind decoration to spines and front boards, bindings lightly worn, original endpapers, volume one title page annotated with brief biographical details of the author, light spotting to opening and closing leaves of each volume otherwise clean and complete, with portrait frontispiece to volume one. Family association copy with the small ownership label of W.B. Drummond to each front pastedown. Attractive example in very good original state of this well researched study.

Laid in is a signed, handwritten letter to his friend, and frequent correspondant, Canadian author Frederick Niven. References in this 2 page letter ( 1 sheet, both sides ), included along with some personal things, are critical thoughts on the " new reading public ", Thomas Hardy, Charles Lamb, Hitler, and Murder in the Cathedral. It is dated 1939. An interesting association cop, of one of Tomlinson's most respected works..

This rare end-of-war report on Switzerland's armed forces and defence is particularly interesting because of the manuscript signature of first owner Le colonel de cavalerie Albert de Tscharner, last of the great Swiss merceneries who died in 1948. It is offered as a companion book to Bernard Barbey: P. C. du Général which includes an autograph dedicace to de Tscharner by Général Guisan.
