Historical novel of the daredevil adventures of early Texas explorer Louis Juchereau St. Denis, by author/screenwiter Paul Wellman, who was a staff writer at Warner Bros. from 1936-1944, and MGM from 1944-1946. Numerous Wellman Westerns were adapted to the screen, including his 1952 novel "The Comancheros," which was made into the popular movie of the same name starring John Wayne. Very Good Plus, exceptionally clean, crisp and bright, in a Very Good dust jacket that has a single small chip at the lower left shoulder of the spine panel. Signed on the half-title page by the author.

Straight and firmly bound, corner bumps, light spine-end wear, spine darkened, rubs to boards, remainder mark to bottom edge, stamped initials to front endpaper, binding slightly shaken but holding firm. The California author of over 1000 books under dozens of pseudonyms presents the tale of a young cowboy who becomes an outlaw for the love of a woman and, with the help of a friend and the local cattlemen, takes on an established crime combine.

Good Condition/ No Dust Jacket. Red boards with Large gilt titles. Black titling on spine. Hinges cracked. N.C. Wyeth Illustration at center front shows Hopalong "Hoppy" Cassidy sitting on a barn wall. Plot summary: "In Bar-20, the first Hopalong Cassidy novel by Clarence E. Mulford, Cassidy could fan a gun like a Billy the Kid... Six rounds in three seconds was his slowest time. No one in the state of Texas could beat him. First printing, "Facsimile Anniversary Edition" issued twenty years after first edition. This edition identical in every way, with an added ten-page Afterward by the author providing full context and background of the book's writing and publication.
This copy also includes an affectionate inscription to a friend of the author, dated February 18, 1994, which is surely close to the publication date.
