Text in Greek, with English notes, 151pp., with a blank leaf interspersed after every page with students to take notes, bound in3/4 burgundy morocco over cloth, raised bands, title gilt within one compartment, marbled endpapers, all edges marbled, a few pencil notations within the text but all blank leaves unmarked. A handsome copy.

Black Sparrow First Printing with color title page. No writing or markings internally. Covers are faded with browning at edges, spine is noticeably faded and browned as well. No tears but page edges are a little dirty at top but it doesn't intrude on the page.

For J Tonson, London, 1717, first edition of this collection; 8vo, pp [xx, being the publisher's introductory essay], 536; contemporary panelled calf, a little rubbed in places and with the front board weak; internally clean and firm; contemporary ownership inscriptions on the title, the older of "Eli. Stannard" with a date that may be 1722 or 1733 and a later "Mary Stannard her Book given her by Mrs Elinor Stannard Nov 15th 1767". Dillon's Essay on Translated Verse, included here, was first published in 1684 and led, together with his earlier blank verse translation of the Ars Poetica, to his reputation as a didactic writer and critic, a poet concerned with the importance of a good moral approach in his poetry and the necessity of being fastidious in his writing. He was the first critic to write admiringly of Milton's Paradise Lost. He was much admired by Pope.

This volume shows almost no wear, spine is good, no loose pages or scuffing, pages clean. Poem "Bomb" as centerfold. Signed by author, "Ciao! Gregory Corso 1975"

London: The Fortune Press. First Published 1945" stated on the verso of the contents page; however, this is the 1965 unauthorised edition that was withdrawn from sale when the author discovered its existence. Dark-red, buckrum-covered boards with gilt lettering to the spine. 500 copies printed, some 280 copies sold with a dust jacket before sale was stopped. No faults for the book, about as nice a copy as you are likely to find. The dust jacket has two very small edge tears, otherwise fine; protected by a clear, removable cover.
