1942. [MOVIE POSTER, lithograph]. THE GOLD RUSH (United Artists, R-1942). "The Gold Rush" is considered by many to be Chaplin's greatest masterpiece. This is a poster for the 1942 re-release of the 1925 film, for which Chaplin composed and recorded a musical score and added a narration which he recorded himself. British Door Panel (20" X 60"). This color poster shows the "Little Tramp," wrapped in a shawl and shivering in the snow, before a large wooden sign that reads: "THE WORLD'S GREAT | LAUGHING PICTURE! | CHARLIE | CHAPLIN | in | THE | GOLD RUSH | Written and directed by | Charles Chaplin | with MUSIC | and WORDS." In the bottom left corner is a small seal: "Distributed by UNITED ARTISTS," and in the bottom right corner is another small seal, that of the British Board of Film Censors. Chicago. C.J. Howard. 1927. Collection is contained in original imprinted cardboard C.J. Howard packaging box. 7"x4.75" when closed (horizontal folding card).7"x9.5" when opened. Each card presents a striking Art Deco multicolored lithograph and various coloured borders and decorations printed upon folded heavy card stock. Early in the 1920s Charles Mather, who worked for his family’s Chicago printing house, the Mather Company, took an idea brought to him by one of the firm’s salesmen, Charles Howard Rosenfeld. What Rosenfeld proposed was a series of posters whose focus was to give workers incentive to work better and to work harder. Mather called these prints, “Constructive Organization Posters.” These posters were made to be placed on office and factory walls and were expected to inspire workers to do their best. Hand-drawing Chinese propaganda poster: "Holding highly the flags of Maoism Thought to eliminate leptospirosis thoroughly." 1971. 89cm x 62cm. All of the painting and red Chinese characters are hand-drawing, only the below black Chinese characters were typed on a paper and then adhered to the painting. Have slight fold which probably can be recovered because the fold is formed by whole put together with others.
The soldier, worker and peasant are holding a red books with title "Maoism Thought" . The three banners are captioned with "Ready for Battle, Ready for Famine, For People", "Long Live For the Victory of the hygienism Route of Chairman Mao’s Proletariat Revolution" and "Put the emphasis of the work of hygienism and Health into Rural Area", respectively. The two plates are captioned with "Must Demolish thoroughly the remaining toxin of the hygienism Route of Anti-revolutionary Revisionism" and "Must eliminate leptospirosis thoroughly ", respectively.

Hollywood: Universum Film [UFA] / Paramount Pictures, 1927. Original advertising herald for the US release of the 1927 film, a shortened 115-minute version re-cut by American playwright Channing Pollock, who is credited on the herald. Interestingly, the herald credits the film as joint production of Paramount and UFA, just prior to the formation of the larger umbrella production company Parufamet, which included UFA, Paramount, and MGM. 4.5 x 6 inches folded, 8.75 x 6 inches unfolded. [England, 1982]. Poster (420mm x 580mm). Professionally mounted, framed and glazed using archival materials. White text and graphic of a missile caught in a spider's web superimposed over a grey and red photograph of the mushroom cloud over Nagasaki. Marker pen notes at the bottom of the poster give contact details and instructions for travelling to the camp by bus from Birmingham. Light creases from old folds into four, some slight surface scuffs. Very good condition. A rare poster advertising Embrace the Base, one of the key mass actions at the Greenham Common Women's Peace Camp. We have been able to locate only two other copies in institutional collections, at the LSE Women's Library and the Glasgow Women's Library. The Greenham Common protest was established in September of 1981 by the Welsh group Women for Life on Earth, who were opposed to the deployment of nuclear tipped Cruise missiles at the site. Excellent condition. An important Second World War poster promoting women in the wartime workforce, produced in 1942 by the War Manpower Commission. At the time, "Women in the War" was one of the most widely distributed images of a woman laboring in war production, unlike the "We Can Do It" poster, which was produced only for Westinghouse plants during a few weeks in 1943 and did not become iconic until the 1980s. "Among the many agencies President Roosevelt had created during the war was the War Manpower Commission, formed in April 1942 to oversee war labor issues in the military, industrial, and civilian sectors. HUNTER THOMPSON FOR SHERIFF - ORIGINAL SILKSCREEN: This item is a 3 color silkscreen printed by artist, Thomas Benton, original designer of Hunter Thompson's election poster from his campaign for sheriff of Aspen in 1970. This item was part of a series released by the artist during the late 90's. Item is boldly signed by Hunter Thompson in gold, and countersigned by Benton in pencil at the bottom of the poster. The poster is in FINE condition. PROVENANCE: The poster has had one owner: Me. I purchased the poster at a book fair in Burbank, CA sometime in the late 90's from Ed Smith Books - ABAA/ILAB member. It has been well preserved & taken care of in a frame (not professional) with acid-free backing.

Unrestored, with great, nicely matched colors and all minor original issues addressed in conservation. Fine.The classic 1960s action-crime thriller, with an iconic performance by Steve McQueen playing the San Francisco cop who becomes obsessed with finding the underground leader responsible for the deaths of witnesses in his protection. Here is one of the finest and most rare posters for this classic title. This example does not appear to have ever been used. Prior to expert linen backing, it showed only very minor shelf wear and shows just minor shelf wear, such as three minor fold juncture separations, a bit of creasing at the very edges and a few minor spots of soiling in the white background. On linen, there was some fold line separation, especially at edge borders, there has been some minor inpainting in the area of the words "MY" and "LIPS", but poster has extraordinary, bright, original colors, near fine.An extremely rare poster and one of the earliest to feature star Clara Bow prominently. Long believed to be a lost film, a nitrate print was found and has been preserved. The film is a romance with a suspense twist in which William Powell plays the debonair character he became famous for and Clara Bow as the ultimate jazz baby.

Newman, Jack Arnold: Universal. Poster is rolled and displays a fair amount of creasing at edges, particularly at the top and bottom. There is inner creasing, more evident in the title box area. Tears at edges have been repaired with brown tape and there are a few small unrepaired edge tears. The top image portion with portrait of Domergue and Reason and the alien to the right is a pasteover and the foot area of the alien has lifted slightly, very good.One of the top science fiction classics of the 1950s. The story involved aliens coming to Earth to engage scientists in a scheme to wage war and destroy the planet. Vintage original 41 x 27" (103 x 67 cm.) one sheet poster, USA. James Ellison, Frances Dee, Tom Conway, Edith Barrett, James Bell, dir: Jacques Tourneur; RKO. Preserved on linen. There has been touch-up to the folds, with some extra touch-up in the "H" of "WITH" and the "O" of "ZOMBIE". There has also been some touch-up and repair to the blank white margins and at corners, and there were a few tiny bits of missing paper along the top edge, near fine.The story (based on Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre) of a nurse who ventures to the West Indies to care for the wife of a plantation manager. She falls in love with him and seeks to cure the wife of her mental paralysis by involving herself in a native voodoo ceremony. A brilliant and atmospheric tale produced by master Val Lewton, the horror suggested by the use of lighting, shadows and camera work. The images on this poster are scary and the graphics bold, reflecting the feel of this suspenseful classic.

Motif Editions. No binding. Fine. Andy Warhol (producer) [London]: Motif Editions, 1970. Vintage original 30 x 20" (76 x 51 cm.) British poster. Unfolded, fine. Andy Warhol's massive 3 1/2-hour film Chelsea Girls was meant to be presented on two screens with only one of the two available soundtracks being played (the projectionist could choose which two soundtracks to use). The film had some kind of truncated showing in London soon after the New York premiere in 1966.In 1968 it received its first intact screenings in London, with the two screens simultaneously showing the different reels of film as intended. For that four-day event, pop illustrator Alan Aldridge created this poster for the London Arts Laboratory. The young woman in it is Chare Shentsone, 16, a budding artist who later became close to Francis Bacon. There was an edition of this poster printed in 1968 to be posted outdoors over London. New York: Great American Tea Company, 1886. Near fine. Original chromolithograph advertising poster, 22 x 32 inches. A stunning print with exceptionally rich color, archivally backed. Professional restoration to edges and a few small spots on the printed area. Near fine. "Ten minutes for refreshments!" was the well-known cry of railroad conductors across the United States before dining cars became common on trains. Hungry and thirsty passengers would rush off the train and into the depot, where they scrambled to order and then bolt down their lunch under the watchful eye of conductor determined to keep the train on schedule. In this advertising print for the Great American Tea Company, the conductor stands in the doorway with pocket watch in hand, calming observing the chaos as customers (all white men served by Black waiters) frantically consume their food and beverages, some leaving smashed crockery in their wake as they rush to re-board the train.
