From the Introduction: The genus Paravilla Painter belongs to the tribe Villini, sub-family Exoprosopinae. The flies are known only from the Western Hemisphere and are known to be parasitoids of solitary bees. This study treats the 53 species that occur north of Columbia. Of these 27 are described as new. Most species are found in the southwestern US and northern Mexico; only 3 species are known from east of the Mississippi River.
