Included are articles on commanders, officers, soldiers killed in the war in the South, survivors of the Revolution, officers and soldiers of Lee's Legion, distinguished characters in civil life, the clergy, the French allies, naval officers, ladies on both sides, British officers, and general suffering and hardships of the troops and civilian population. While the book concentrates on people and events in South Carolina, there is material pertaining to North Carolina and Georgia, as well as other parts of the country.
