For 15 years, Marcia Farr studied ranchers -- a transnational community of families who were filed simultaneously in the city of Chicago and their hometown in Michoacán, Mexico. In this ethno-linguistic representation, Marcia Farr examines three outstanding representative styles of speech that characterizes ranchers: openness (speech sincere, frank and direct), respect (speech and respectful deference); and relaxation (humorous artistic language that allows verbal criticism of the social order maintained through respect).
