Finland 2004. To me, art means the spiritualization of architecture and the deepened intensity of its own breathing, says the 49 year old artist, who is a native of Kuhmo, Finland. He explians how he has studied the sound of his own works of (public) art that have been embedded in the architecture of buildings. He talks about his hopes and his aims that the building and the art works can be joined seamlessly to each other. He is best known for architecural applications of contre-jour works, such as his Light, Grace, Consolation in St. Johns Church, Männistö, and the Church of the Good Shepherd at Pakila in Helsinki, designed by Juha Leiviskä. He attended the Free Art School (1978-81) graduating as a painter, and later taught at several Finnish art schools. He tends to integrate his works into architectural settings.
