Description:
London: B. T. Batsford, 1972. Revised ed.. Hardback octavo, dustjacket, very good condition (in very good dustjacket), top edge light blue coloured, black & white photos, minor edgewear jacket (flap clipped, few tiny edge tears, price sticker mark rear cover). 282 pp. Guy Chapmanexamines the trial of Alfred Dreyfus. The French military tribunal found him guilty on a charge of high treason in 1894. This book is a compelling account of one of the most significant series of trials in modern European history. Themes examined include anti-Semitism (as Dreyfus was Jewish), the War Office's determination to uphold the army's honour, Zola's j'accuse letter, and the political background. (Originally published in 1955, and here retitled.).
