The Air Trust (Classics of Science Fiction) Hardcover - 1979
by England, George Allan
Summary
England's 1915 novel of socialist revolution in America. "I hope for a peaceful and bloodless revolution. But if that be impossible, then by all means let us have revolution in its other sense. And with the hope that this book may perhaps revive some fainting spirit or renew the vision of emancipation in some soul where it has dimmed, I give "The Air Trust" to the workers of America and of the world." -- George Allan England

Description:
Westport: Hyperion Press 1976 Facsimile Edition 8vo 333pp ill. ISBN 0883553686, 1976 Fine original cloth, no DW as issued. Offset from the 1915 edition. Billionaire capitalist, Isaac Flint, discovers a process that extracts oxygen from the air, thus creating a monopoly - the entire world must buy his air if people are to breathe at a level beyond utter misery. The scientific explanation is well worked out; the great plant with its equipment and huge storage containers is nearing completion near Niagara Falls when Flint's opponents stage a massive and dramatic counter-attack. T he advantage veers from side to side and the issue is kept in doubt until the final confrontation. The book's strong socialist slant made it too controversial for magazine publication, and was eventually published in one edition by Phil Wagner in 19 15.
